Getting things in order.

September 14th, 2005 at 06:19 pm

Well the extra work paid off. I have put the bulk of it in the emergency fund. I sent the first payment in on my DW's credit card debt. I now have a six month emergency fund and all of my cards paid off. I hope my health holds out as I am getting very tired. I have set the payments for 24 months. I'll put extra on it when I get more extra work!

I built the emergency fund for my peace of mind. Now when something comes up my budget won't be screwed up.

I know everyone says pay off all your debt first but I get sick if no money is saved.

Payments of 712.00 for 24 months + whatever extra I can get my hands on. That wil pay off DW's CC debt.

I am going to treat myself when everything is paid off. I'll save for it though!

Congrats on the emergency fund. I'll admit that my current emergency plan revolves around $15k of credit limits on credit cards. It's not my ideal, but I'm more bothered by the debt than the fear of needing ready cash. I'm hoping that I can motivate dh to save once the cc's are paid off (maybe if I just don't tell him the money is there?).

My dh is kind of like your wife. He wants to enjoy life now, even if it means debt. In his mind, everyone is in debt and will always be in debt, so why fight it.

Congratulations...I'm with you regarding the emergency fund. Peace of mind is priceless, and I'm sure the fact that you have an end date in mind and can see the light at the end of the tunnel will inspire you even more...
