Market Down /Emergency Fund Full Again

May 19th, 2006 at 06:39 pm

I took a haircut for approximately 1500 so far in the market during the last two weeks. I am in it for the long run though. Nutual funds and ETF index funds.
Gotta hope everything works out.

The Emergency Fund is up to 10 thousand. Now I can sleep at night and not get crazy. If sonmething comes up I'll use it. I continue to add 100 dollars a month to it.

Gas is getting crazy. I don't drive now unless I absoluely haave to do so! 3.19 a gallon is insane! Well what can you do.

I am not spending anything on most days. I hearken back to when I was a kid and had great fun without anything but lint in my pockets.

Nothing terrible has happened yet. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

That's got to be a load of worry off your mind. $10 grand? Very cool. Good job.

I am in it for the long term also. I checked a few of my mutual funds and I am down several thousand, but I look at it this way.
I only have one "load" mutual fund. That is Fidelity Magellan. I got it because Peter Lynch was running it back in the late 80's!!
I sent them $1000 and they charged me $30 in loads.
I have kept it to use for comparison!
I put $970 in it, and it is worth over $5000, so I feel I am not really losing money unless it becomes worth less than $970!!

WAY TO GO!!! I'm so inspired! I had to tap my emergency fund to pay my huge tax bill, so I'm down to $2304.17. I still need to transfer the $1637 refund that I got back from NYS, which will get it to about $4000. I want to get it back to $10,000 though, and it's a long, slow road. You did a great job!

Yep, last week was brutal for me too. Kind of depressing to see your stocks/ mutual funds go down a few hundred dollars a day. But as Louis Rukeyser (RIP) used to say, "if a stock was a cantaloupe, and you loved cantaloupe, you wouldn't mind the drop in price."

    Congrats on the $10K!
